Sleep Training Clocks

This is really one of my Secret Weapons, but I had enough to say about it that it needed its own post!  For ideas on how to use Sleep Training Clocks, see my series of posts regarding Sleep: Go To Sleep, Early Riser, Sleep Passes, and Please Stay Asleep.

There are tons of Sleep Training Clocks and they can be extremely effective in helping kiddos stay asleep (or at least in their room in the early morning).

My advice for choosing a Sleep Training Clock after using several:

(1)  find one that is silent when it turns on (ours clicks pretty loudly and wakes her if she happens to still be sleeping),

(2)  find one that is easy to operate (I cannot do anything with ours if I mess up!),

(3)  find one that your child is excited about (ours looks like a sheep and goes to sleep – closes its eyes – at night),

(4)  find one that has various light settings from dim to bright, and

(5)  Many have an alarm feature, if you think you will eventually need one to wake your child, choose this.  For us, there is no way we will need this!

It is also crucial that you pair this strategy with a highly motivating reward!   Remember that they can earn rewards immediately at first to gain momentum and then you can start with earning over time.  Check out the posts on Instant or Earned Rewards for more information.  And, the Resources Page has puzzles and games that will help with this!
