RECESS

Recess is probably the hardest thing to remember to do when homeschooling. We are constantly trying to get everything done, we don’t have a park or other kids to play with, and I am always afraid that if we go outside to play, we won’t come back in!

Remember when we were kids (yes, way back then)? We had specific recess games that did not require any special equipment! I have compiled a list of them in case, like me, you have forgotten some of them!

For direction, in case you forgot the rules or never played some of these games, see 30 Classic Outdoor Games for Kids for rules and descriptions. There are a ton of games on this site, I only listed the ones that you can easily do with only a couple of people:

  1. Hide and Seek (inside or outside)

  2. Capture the flag - flag, scarf, ball - anything to capture

  3. Parachute (you can use a sheet!)

  4. Traffic Cop

  5. Four Square (or Two Square) - bouncy ball

  6. Jump Rope - jump ropes

  7. Hopscotch - chalk and a rock

  8. Jacks - jacks and small bouncy ball

  9. Marbles - marbles

  10. Simon Says

  11. Tag - Shadow, Freeze, TV

  12. Hand Clap Games - these are also awesome for crossing mid-line, occupational therapy and brain exercise

  13. Cat’s Cradle - string

  14. Freeze dance - music
